There has to be a balance between people who move to Hawaii with BIG Money or those who do not even move here but buy plenty places and leave them empty, condo banking, and then people who live here and are in need of homes, A lot to be said! Check with which local politician democrats making how much money from bills they pass or don't pass,

I spent three years in Ewa beach and roving homeless camps would pop up over night on any flat empty space. While you sleep or are at work, truckloads of crap will materialize in the park or empty lot next door or right on the beach in front of your 7 figure house. And they’ll bring dogs, drugs, and prostitution with the rest of their junk and spread to fill any and all available space.

Good topic! Everybody seems to want to move, but it really isn't for everyone. Besides affordability, we also need to consider it's an island with its own unique challenges & differences than mainland. Some people migrate seasonally, which might help. Mahalo for being real.

Chickens don’t crow brah 😂 Roosters Roosters! And you’re right about the surf! Surfed the North Shore and lived in front of Rocky Rights and Gas Chambers Lefts for 7-8 years. My first timeout we went out at Left Overs. The waves were about 2-4 ft. clean. Easy. Within a half hour the waves were 6-8 ft. and getting bigger. It was getting dark and never surfed waves that fast and powerful. I finally took off and it was so steep I hesitated and went over the falls. Got worked! Instant respect and got smarter about checking the surf report and knowing my limits!

Shout out, Pearl City of the late 60s! When we were kids we ran around the next morning collecting all the fire crackers that hadn't gone off in the piles of red paper that were leftover like snow drifts all ovah the place. In the road, along the curbs, etc. Snow drifts I didn't know about back then, but the simile is obvious to me now. Yeah, some neighborhoods (and islands) way more into the fireworks. An inversion next day can be really bad news.

Hawaii's BIG homie. Barack Obama killed the report and the legislation mentioned below. Kill Haole Day is the term for bullying incidents that occurred in some public Hawaii schools, when non-white students would harass and attack white students.[1] (Haole is a Hawaiian term for individuals who are not Native Hawaiian, but typically used to describe white people) Kill Haole Day was discussed by the Hawaii State Legislature when debating hate crimes legislation. In 1999, School Superintendent Paul LeMahieu said he was aware of "Kill Haole Day." On December 31, 2008, the U.S. Department of Education released a report on the Hawaiian public school system that concluded there was "substantial evidence that students experienced racially and sexually derogatory name-calling on nearly a daily basis on school buses, at school bus stops, in school hallways and other areas of the school".[5] The report also concluded that school officials responded inadequately or not at all when students complained of racial harassment. Students who did complain were retaliated against by their antagonists.[6] Just like the N-word started out meaning something different, the word haole did as well. However, what happened is over time both words became used as a racial slur, which is how it is today. #Hawaii #Oahu #Honolulu #Waipahu #Makaha 🖕🖕🖕🖕

Poor people, I was raised when all there was were pineapple fields. It was known as waipio and kipapa. You would not believe the cold and pure waters flowing thru from koolaus to ewa for pineapple and sugarcain. I graduated leilehua high 1965. It was amazing.

I grew up in waipio, a pineapple plantation camp in what is now militani. We lived about 50 yards from kipapa elementary school. Then I went to leilehua intermediate and high school. My friends and I spent a lot of time in wahiawa. I’m in California now. I really miss the Hawaii and of course wahiawa.

The rail is great. They just need to extend into town and extend the hours. To have it shut down at night is ridiculously unproductive. More people would use it to commute if it was available around the clock. We also need a real transit authority that is armed. A separate entity from HPD with full authority over the safety of rail passengers.

I have not been back to the big island in 20 years and it’s changed for the worse. All locals are disappearing and ghetto mainlanders now here. It’s dirty and still underdeveloped. I went to a famers market in Waimea and a local said the population was shrinking. Maui and Oahu are much better islands to live. If you’re broke or a tweaker, this is the place for you. There is a reason real estate is cheaper on the big island.

I just finished watching videos of new homes in other states. Is the price of paradise really worth it to you? What is your situation, what do you want and/or what do you need? We all need to choose wisely. After 60 years of living in Hawaii and watching what has happened here (mostly in a negative way), I will be living out the rest of my life somewhere else where my money will actually go further.

Grew up surfing in San Clemente, CA and came to Oahu through the US Coast Guard way back in 1979. It immediately became my home (and still is, love Hawaii) and within six months moved to Haleiwa and then moved to a beach house inbetween Rocky Rights and Gas Chambers Lefts. I wasn’t in the Coast Guard the whole time as I got out in 1981 and surfed the North Shore until 1987. Watching this video showed me how much more commercialized the North has become! The North Shore back then was very country. Now, it is starting to look like town, sad. Keep the country, country! Please!

Live in the far western Pacific and am often in Hawaii. Have been going to Hawaii since the 1970s and the difference between then and now is like day and night. The impact of climate change and poor land use/development choices are blatantly apparent, homelessness and property crime driven by meth addiction appear out of control. While some locals are tolerant, friendly and welcoming, many are not (especially to mainlanders). I was on Oahu last week and had a young local raise their voice at me and call me a “colonialist oppressor.” 🤣
